| chuck_bleakney's Full Review: Simplicity Landlord Garden Tractor |
I have a 12HP Landlord (model 7012) that I purchased used from the prior owner of my home. He had purchased it new a few years before. The options I have for it are a 48" mower deck, rototiller, and a snow plow blade. I use it constantly for these tasks as well as many others... (stumping, towing cars around, hauling stuff in a tip wagon.)
It costs on average about $200 per year for general maintainance. (this includes the tractor and accessories). I have had the engine rebuilt once, I have replaced the mower deck bearings twice and many other mower parts once. This vehicle has the hydrostatic transmission and I highly recommend it. It will do anything from a very slow creep to approximately 7 mph with the simple sliding of a lever. Damn close to nothing can stop it as long as it can get traction.
I have used it to clear about an acre of land. I regularly have to go around and yank up the brush and briars that constantly encroach on my 1.5 acres of lawn. (the combination of a chain and the snowplow work very well for this) It plows my driveway with relative ease (I live in New England). The only negative is that it is getting difficult to find dealers for them in my area. (They last too long, few resales and/or repairs!!!)
I used to have about a 3/4 acre garden but have not been doing that for the past few years. I used the rototiller to maintain it as well as a couple neighbors gardens to boot. It did an excellent job of tilling. The mower deck cuts very well without scalping even in my rather rough lawn. I have replaced the blades (3) only once in all that time. I do all of the maintainance on it myself... it is pretty easy to maintain. Exhaust systems are the most frequent replacement, about every 5 years. It is fairly quiet with a good one on it. I'd buy another in a heartbeat (But I don't have to yet...)
