I had seen many commercials for Snuggies. Each time I would laugh and thought the product was very cheesy. I continued to think Snuggies were cheesy when Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien and Jimmy Fallon were all making jokes about the product. I never thought about getting a Snuggie because I lived in sunny Southern California up until September. Then, we moved to Washington and I was introduced to cold weather. Since moving to Washington, I have needed a blanket almost every night while sitting on the couch because it's so cold!
I've noticed that the Snuggie commercial seems to play a lot more here in Washington, and now I understand why. It's much closer here than it is in California and there is actually a need for something like a Snuggie. So, I finally caved in and bought the Snuggie at Target for $14.99.
The Snuggie is a fleece blanket that has sleeves. My Snuggie is the blue "Super Soft Fleece" Snuggie. The Snuggie is soft and feels very nice on the skin. I was surprised and disappointed that it was so thin when I first brought the it home. However, after wearing it, it definitely keeps me warm even on very cold nights.
The reason I wanted the Snuggie was because of the sleeves. It's hard to do anything when you're holding a blanket. It's difficult to hold a phone, hold a book, or use a laptop. And, it's definitely hard to do anything with your hands if you're standing while holding a blanket. So, the Snuggie looked like the solution for this.
When I saw the Snuggie advertised on television, I always thought that the Snuggie was something that you would put over your head and wear like a really long sweatshirt. However, the Snuggie is literally like putting on a robe backwards. The only difference is that it is loose around the neck and there is no tie to close the back of the Snuggie. Therefore, when you're not sitting on the couch, your back is completely exposed to the cold and does tend to slide off, unlike the ad that says that the Snuggie does not slide off like a blanket. The commercial even shows a family attending a sporting event sitting on bleachers and they're wearing their Snuggies. Because the Snuggie does not close in the back, that family would be very cold!
I want to mention the size of the Snuggie. The Snuggie would be great for taller people. I am 5'6" and about five inches are hanging on the ground when I stand up. In addition, the sleeves are very long. This is usually not a problem when I am sitting on the couch using my laptop, but when I'm standing trying do so something the sleeves are hanging way past my fingers. And, as I said earlier, it is very difficult to do anything while standing with the Snuggie on because it is trying to slip off.
The Snuggie is machine washable. I have already washed it a few times and it always comes out feeling nice and soft.
Overall, the Snuggie is a great product when you're sitting on the couch. It will keep you warm and you won't have any trouble using your hands while wearing the Snuggie while seated. However, if you need to do something while standing, the Snuggie will not help. Although the Snuggie is just like wearing a bathrobe backward, it is still a little more comfortable. I still think the Snuggie is worth the small price, especially if you spend a lot of time on the couch because the sleeves are convenient.
