| toptechreviews's Full Review: Sonic Foundry Acid Pro 3.0 Full Version for PC |
I have been working with Acid Pro for a couple of years and I have just upgraded to Acid 3.0 about 8 months ago. I have a developing home recording studio and Acid is a vital tool for my projects. I am not a schooled recording engineer and I have been able to catch on to the sound editing style of Acid pretty quick.
The Interface: Acids button-style layout does not take long to get used to. The most commonly used are right at the top. Each track also has its own effects buttons for easy access. With an unlimited amount of tracks, you can import, record, and add as many tracks as you would like. Once the loop or audio file is selected and brought to the working window. All you do is use the paint tool to roll the audio on the track. You then may cut, lengthen, pan, duplicate, speed up, slow down and even add effects to your clips.
The Controls: As spoke of above, the paint, draw, selection, and erase tool are the main controls of the program. Acid also implements your usual cut/copy/paste method which allows for easy duplication and moving of audio clips. Play, stop, and pause controls are indicated by the traditional VCR icons. All of which also have keyboard shortcuts to keep from using the mouse so much.
Loops: Loops are pieces of audio that are used repeatedly to produce beats. Acid comes with a loops package that will hold you over for a while. When the time comes, and it will, that you get hungry for more loops, get ready. Loops are pretty expensive to buy running any where from 25 to 70 bucks for around 500 loops. But if you know anything about audio software, you can find ways to make your own.
Requirements: 300 MHz processor
Windows-compatible sound card
CD-ROM drive
Supported CD-Recordable drive (for CD Burning)
64 MB RAM (128 MB recommended)
60 MB hard-disk space for program installation
Microsoft Windows 98, Me, 2000, or XP
DirectX 8.0 or later
Internet Explorer 5.0 or later
400 MHz processor and Windows 98SE, Me, or 2000 for video scoring.
I have no complaints about the software compatible. Acid installed and fired right up with flawless operation.
After finishing your projects, you have some options that allow you to have your new music creation heard. Acid comes with a Publish feature that allows you to put your music on sonic foundrys website where all other Acid junkies can hear your music. If you do not wish to have everyone in the world able to listen, you can also burn it to a CD in mp3 or wav format to share with your friends.
If you are looking for a loop-base recording software package, this is a great starting place. Learning acid pro will help you when you decide to take the next into the more complicated software. Acid is a perfect stepping-stone into the audio editing industry. If you are a musician and are interested in recording your own music, acid is great. But I should warn you that you might want to buy an external hard drive or make sure you have plenty of space because wav files can hog a lot of space.
Good luck
