This is by far the most disappointing piece of eletronica I have ever purchased. I received the STR-DE935 in December of 1999. Five months later, the amp went out. After a month in the local service center, it was repaired and returned with a warning from the technician that, "this is a common problem with this model." Sony denies this.
Another five months go by and the amp blows out again. This time I sent it to the Sony Service Center. In no uncertain terms, I was told on the phone by Sony that the warranty covers repair, and not replacement. The loss of use and liklihood of future breakdowns were, "not Sony's problem." (Yes, I am serious!) After a month in Sony's hands, the very same receiver was returned to me.
Imagine my delight that the unit stayed online for 6 months this time before it blew up. Once again, Sony Customer Service emphasized that this was NOT a lemon, and that they had NO responsibility to me to replace the unit. Their warranty covers repair, after all. This is the third breakdown in under a year and a half, exactly like the first technician warned me would happen. I still have 6 months left on my warranty, so I imagine I can pull another 5 months worth of music out of it before I have a $500 paperweight.
The unit packs a lot of features and handles tons of components, but there is a very, very big problem with this model. STAY AWAY!!!
