| csilv's Full Review: Sony CLIE® PEG-S320 Handheld |
I purchased my first PDA about two weeks ago. I went into one of those electronics superstores looking for something that I could store business phone numbers and addresses and the like. I zeroed in on the Sony Clie PEG-S320.
The first features that I really looked for were size (I wanted something small, because I have to carry around enough junk everyday as it is) and I wanted something that had a rechargeable battery...which the Clie has. The Clie has a very thin and small case which easily fits into a shirt or jacket pocket.
Price and storage capacity were my other main concerns. The Clie was priced at 159.99 which was very competetive for the feature set that the unit has. It comes standard with 8MB of flash memory which is enough to hold 10,000 addresses.
I brought the unit home and installed the Clie's software to my laptop and easily transferred my database (which currently has about 3200 names and addresses in it) to the PDA. Be aware that, I did need to port my database to an Excel spreadsheet before I could load it so that it wasn't placing info in the wrong fields on the PDA.
I currently use the Clie when I am away from the house for phone # and address lookup as well as driving directions that can be directly downloaded from the internet from mapquest.
I do not have the PDA configured with a modem or e-mail, but these are options that can be added later if I desire.
Should I ever start running out of memory...the unit accepts memory sticks to expand my storage capacity.
The only drawback is the display. It is a monotone, back-lit LCD, which can be difficult to see if the conditions are very bright, but the nice soft, blue-green backlighting makes it very easy to see in the dark.
All in all....I am quite happy with my PEG-S320.
I did buy a case for the unit, which is made by SONY for 39.99. The case is made of some type of leather and the Clie is attached to it by a Velcro strip....tho be honest the case sucked...so I returned it..and recommend not purchasing it.
