| kumate1's Full Review: Sony Walkman D-ES51 Personal CD Player |
I enjoy exercising and listening to CDs. So, despite the fact that I already had a portable CD player, I thought that I would buy a player that could take a little more jarring and not skip. Unfortunately for me, this CD player does not meet those specs. Sony claims 20 seconds of skip protection, however my Discman skips relentlessly. Skipping now even occurs when it is just sitting on my bureau and I put in a brand new CD. The most disturbing thing is that the skipping problem occurred from the start, and has gotten progressively worse despite the fact that I never even used it for its alleged "Sports" purpose.
This is not the first Sony Discman that I have had problems with. I bought a Discman in 1996 that was one of the first with 10 second skip protection. This Discman also suffered from a similar skipping malady. I was lucky that time because I was able to return it and buy a Panasonic that still works to this day. (Consumer Reports stated that Panasonic had far superior skip resistance).
I must admit, in my young carefree days I was lured by the slick design and the Sony name. Infatuated with the slick shape, I convinced my mind that Sony must have improved its skip protection technology and bought the ultra-modern Discman. I was wrong, but you can learn from my mistake. All that I am left with is a yellow $190 paper weight.
