I bought the unit for a gift for a family member. It is a durable unit which is a little bulky and a tad on the pricey side. The advantages of the unit were as follows;
1. Durability. The hard shell provides for excellent protection against drops with the addition of some water resistancy included;
2. Sound Quality. Better than expected from a 'Sports' line unit. Sony traditionally has a 'flatter' sound relative to the Panasonic and AIWA units. This unit has the 'GROOVE' feature which gave fuller sound than what was expected;
3. Volume. The unit has greater volume relative to the Panasonic Shockwave units that I have tried in the past. The sound also maintains it's clarity and does not break up or get distorted as the Panasonic Shockwave units tend to do;
4. Shock Resistancy. ESP2 works fine;
5. Ease of use. The functions are accessible on the top on lid, including the 'joystick' like control used for the main functions of the unit such as 'Play' and 'Stop'
Some of the negative points that could use improving include;
1. Size. Too bulky for a portable unit;
2. Price. A little on the expensive side for what you get in the unit itself and included accessories;
3. Color. Couldn't they make a unit that is another color other than yellow;
4. Output Jack. There is no output on the unit other than the headphones to connect to a car or home stereo. I understand that the reasoning lies in connection to the unit's water resistancy but the Panasonic Shockwave units were able have the output jack feature built in;
5. Headphones. I am not a fan of the Sony Sport Headphones. I understand that they are built in the fashion to be flexible for active individuals;
6. Accessories. Could have included a strap or some way to carry the unit. The Panasonic Shockwave's come with an optional hand strap.
All in all a decent unit that would be welcome to those looking for durability foremost in a unit with the Sony name and standard.
