Pros: Big Power, Great Sound, Excellent format support, tons of options, great remote, great price.
Cons: Ummm... none, unless looks of the system are important to you.
The Bottom Line: If you want surround sound, have a DVD player, and crave power and lots of features at a reasonable price, this is your system.

This system is utterly amazing. I had an Apex HT-100W system, but was a little unsatisfied with its surround sound capabilities, or lack thereof. Anything other than Dolby Digital came only through two speakers. Anyway, I went back to Rex, got $190 store credit, and started looking around. The salesman suggested I step up to the next level of surround sound because the differences in quality and features were substantial. First off, I wanted Dolby Pro Logic II and dts support on top of Dolby Digital, because I bought it primarily for use with my PS2. PS2 games often have Pro Logic II or dts sound. I also wanted an optical digital input (for my PS2).
One of the greatest features on the HT-DDW840 is the remote. It can control several devices, including DVD, LD, CD, TV, VCR(s), minidisc, tape, and of course, itself. It can perform so many functions, and is moderately easy to learn.
Another cool feature is the ability to turn any sound source into a basic 4.1 (Right, Left, Center, Rear.Subwoofer) sound. It makes anything not encoded with surround sound (say a game like Gran Turismo 3) and creates a basic surround field. And it works too! I heard tire noises coming distinctly from rear and the echo from the tunnels was very atmospheric. My Pro Logic II games were awesome, too (Need for Speed Hot Pursuit II and Burnout II).
At 600 watts, this system has more than enough power to fill a large room. The speakers can be turned up quite loud without any distortion. This system was priced at $400, marked down to $350, then to $330 because I am a frequent shopper at Rex.
