Pros: Great Dolby Digital.....inputs\outputs for every imaginable use. Custom sound setting. Price

Cons: The user manual could explain functions better.

The Bottom Line: I strongly recommend for a all in a digital receiver for the price

I purchased the STR-DE985 to replace my older expensive
PRO LOGIC receiver. I wanted the newer digital format and did I ever! There is no comparison. I use the basic Surround speaker setup(2 front/center/subwoofer/2 back side surrounds) plus the center back. All the inputs/outputs I will ever need. I really like the volume controls per speaker although the range could be more. Setup was ok, but a lot of trial and errors due to a manual that could of been better. Sony re-added the A/B switch for a 2nd set of speakers which I think is must. All and all a great digital receiver especially for the price
