The Bottom Line: I would highly recommend this phone to anyone who can get it free with their cell plan, as it has most of the options of more expensive phones.

My Ericsson A1228c was free with my cellular phone plan. I had the option of upgrading to a different phone for a small fee, but declined to do so after reviewing the options available with the A1228c. The phone is large enough to be handled comfortably, without being too big to fit in a pocket. The interface is well thought-out, with an intuitive menu system and easy to use buttons. The phone has most of the features of higher-end phones, such as a locking keypad, 200 number storage, 99 number speed dial, text messaging capability, and various different ringer options. It is also web-ready, which is an impressive feature considering the phone is free. There are several negative aspects of the phone, however. The number storage does not alphabetize automatically, which can take some getting used to. There is no internal vibrator, although a very small adapter can be fitted to the bottom of the phone for those who require this option. I have had mine for about six months, and the paint is starting to wear off of the buttons. The buttons are still clearly legible, but another six months or a year and this may not be the case. A final complaint is that the phone does not accept standard 1/8” headset jacks, although an adapter is provided to allow this. Overall I would say this is a very solid phone and will certainly get the job done. It has all of the essential options, and some extras on top. As long as you’re not expecting to get year after year of service out of it, a phone of this quality is an excellent choice, especially for free.
