| Fumanku's Full Review: Sony CLIE® PEG-N710C Handheld |
Having owned several PocketPCs, Palms, PDAs, etc..I have seen a drastic improvement in recent years. A former IPaq stalwart, I used it every day, but seemed to feel that the complicated features were never used in day to day work. Its for this reason, that I went back to the Palm operating system. Impressed by the demo unit at Sony Metreon, I decided to buy a 710C for myself. After charging the battery, I turned the unit on for the 1st time. The 320x320 resolution makes a HUGE difference! Everything seemed cleaner, and much easier to read. The only drawback, is that most programs are still written for the 160x160 format, so they dont take advantage of this feature. Another great plus, was the fact that there was an MP3 player built in. Based on Sony's MEMORY STICK technology, it was seen as a blessing to me, as I use several Sony MS products. MP3 playback was pretty good, with visualizations, similar to PC players. Sound quality was also good. The only thing missing was a LCD on the remote control. I can also plug in memory sticks with digital photos, and browse them with ease.
Another great feature was the JOG dial, which can be used to scroll thru songs, pictures, and other programs. All in all, this unit was great, with no major defects. Battery life was ok, but not the greatest. (I used the MP3 player on a plane, and it died in 3 hours.) Although expensive, I would reccomend this unit to anyone who is interested in having the ULTIMATE PDA.
