| marqwyce's Full Review: Sony VAIO GRX560 PC Notebook |
This Laptop Computer was great while it lasted. For 2-1/2 years, it worked reliably. The graphics could not be beat. The firewire port turned this laptop into a portable digital video editing workstation that served me well on the road. I have used it as a DAW (multitrack audio recorder) with an external Fire Wire 8-channel A/D converter with mic preamps) to record major symphony concerts professionally and it has always functioned reliably.
That is, until this year, when at first the laptop did not see all installed memory some of the time. The first symptom was errors when returning from hibernation. Then I discovered that the amount of RAM showed in Windows XP was only 256MB, and not the 512MB that was installed.
The laptop continued to function okay all summer with this problem, however, about 3 days ago, it suddenly froze up and refused to reboot. I could only reboot it if I pressed down on the memory modules (with the cover removed).
Apparently there are a large number of these laptops suffering from this defect. A Google search on "Sony VAIO memory problems" reveals numerous discussions of the problem. A class action suit has been started against Sony over their alledged refusal to acknowledge the problem.
