| dboc_99's Full Review: Sony DRN-XM01C Satellite Radio Receiver with Car K... |
I've heard all the hype on Satellite Radio and so I had to check it out for myself. I went to my local Best Buy and checked out an XM Sony Plug and Play.
The tuner itself is small and can be mounted anywhere on your dashboard or center console of your car. It shows channel number, song title and artist up to a certain number of characters. It uses a separate antenna which runs about $75 more. Yes, you have to buy this too. In short, it does the trick with Sony quality. My one complaint is that it doesn't have enough presets to make it super easy to use.
Reception is excellent and XM's programming is so diverse. It's wonderful. XM offers over 100 channels of digital quality audio for $9.99 a month. This breaks down to about 70 music channels and 30 talk and entertainment channels. What this means is you get 100 channels of crisp clear music, sports and news with almost zero commercials. Some channels are commercial free and just play music all the time. How refreshing. I listen to jazz, rock, top hits, several of the country stations, and some spicy Latin music too. For news I like Fox News, CNN and The sporting News. It is much better sounding and better programming than FM. It's definitely worth the 10 bucks a month.
