The Speck PixelSkin is simply the best iPod Touch case that I was able to find. It's very strongly made and protects my iPod quite well, plus it is quite affordable. When it comes to cases for iPods and iPhones, you really have to shop around because the prices vary greatly between retailers.
When I first got my iPod Touch, I went to Best Buy to see what kind of cases they had available. Of what I found, they seemed to be way overpriced. I wasn't about to spend $30 on some cheap looking rubber sleeve, nor was I going to spend $40 on some fold-out leather wallet. I went home and searched for ‘iPod Touch case' on Amazon.com and this PixelSkin from Speck was the first thing on the list of search results. Out of 187 customer ratings, it has a 4.5/5 star rating, which is quite good. It also costs half the price of anything comparable I found at Best Buy. As of this writing, it currently sells for $12.21.
What turned me on to this case is how it was more than just a thin rubber sleeve for my iPod Touch. This PixelSkin is three times as thick as a standard rubber case, and it uses a square tread pattern to help make it more nonstick and easy to hold. Around the edges of the screen, you get a nice ridge that makes it very easy to hold, especially when playing games. Without this case, I always felt like my iPod Touch was going to slip out of my hands because it is so sleek.
Because it is rubber and stretchy, your iPod Touch slides in and out the bottom, but it holds in place quite well, and there is room for all the plugs and buttons. Once this case is put on, there is really no reason to ever take your iPod out of it. Because of the rigid design of this case, I seriously doubt that the iPod would ever just slide out of it. It isn't hard to remove, but it does take a little bit of work, so this will help cut down on any accidental slippage.
The only negative thing I have to say about this case is that it does not include any kind of screen protector. However, a proper screen protector would likely disrupt the functionality of the iPod Touch since the whole thing is based on touchscreen operation. I have a soft cloth that I use to wipe smudges off my screen, and I have found the screen to be so smooth that it cleans easily. The simple fact is that you can't just drop this thing in your purse or pocket and expect it not to get scratched. I keep my iPod mainly inside the center console of my truck when not in use, and I am careful not to let anything but my fingers touch the screen.
I was very surprised to find out that I won an iPod Touch in a contest last month on this site, and have really enjoyed using this incredible music, movie, and gaming device. I like to listen to my iPod in my truck, and I worry about it banging around inside the center console. That's why I decided to get a protective case to help shield my iPod Touch from damage. I would not recommend using your Touch without some kind of case, and the Speck PixelSkin was the best one I found. It's a $12 investment to protect a $200 device, and is so worth it.
