Steelfan's Full Review: Stanley Wonder Bar Pry Bar 55-525
My wife and I recently decided to put an addition on our house. Most of the work is going to be done by a contractor that we hired, but he told me that anything that I could do would save me money. The first project I had was to remove the old railing from our existing deck. I started looking around in my tool boxes for a crowbar. While I was in there, I ran across the Stanley Super Wonder Bar that I bought a few years back. Remembering the success that I had with it in the past, I decided to give it a try.
What you see is what you get.
What is to be said about this product ? It is a heavy duty piece of steel with a bend in it. The length is 15 1/2 and the width is 1 3/4. This pry bar is a bit longer than most others to add more leverage. On the one end is a claw that comes to about a 90 degree angle for pulling nails, and tight spaces. The other end is another claw , and a hole that comes to a point which runs about at a 15 degree angle from a bend in the bar. The bend is about 4 from that end, and is about 3 long.
Honey, why is this pry bar bent?
You guessed it by now, this was my wifes first question. I continued to show her how it worked, and she said uhhhhhh. The design of this bar is one of the oldest theories known to man. It uses leverage to make nail, paneling, and even railing removal easy. There are two ways to use this bar. The first is simple, and easy. You take the 90 degree claw end, and place it under the nail that you want to remove. One small pull, and out comes the nail. The second end with the bend , and the nail puller can be used a few ways. First you can put the claw under the nail or material that you want to remove. You then push down on the bar. This uses the bend in the bar as a focal point, and forces the claw end up. You can even use your foot to do it. Also there is no danger of slamming your hand, because it is protected by the other claw end. Someone was really thinking when they designed this product. The other way to use this end of the bar is to place the nail puller on an exposed nail, and use the same method for pull it. There is one more thing that this bar is also designed for. You can use it as a lever to hold material off the ground, and in position. This is done by sliding the bar under you work piece, and push down on the bar till the desired position is reached. This gives you both hands for securing the material. This is especially great for panel, and door placement.
OK, how did it work?
I have used this bar on several occasions in the past before banishing it to my toolbox. The list of chores completed by this tool are:
Paneling removal
Pulling nails for wood
Decking removal
Hands free placement of paneling, doors, or other projects
Railing removal
Or just plain tearing something apart
This bar is very durable, and well designed. This bar can be used for almost any job that a crowbar can be used for. The added leverage that the bend gives you is unbelievable. And when you use your foot, you can put a lot of pressure on the bar. I now keep the Stanley Super Wonder Bar in my everyday toolbox. If you buy one so will you.
