| Staceys1's Full Review: Star Wars Revenge of the Sith Wookiee Water Blaste... |
My seven year old son has jumped right onto the "Star Wars" bandwagon, making my husband quite thrilled since he has been a fan since the original movies were released when we were children. Finally, after longingly looking at the Star Wars Revenge of the Sith Wookiee Water Blaster Super Soaker in its package sitting in our house for two months, it was sunny and warm enough outside for my children to play with it.
The Wookiee Water Blaster is basically an updated version of a water gun. Rather than holding a few tablespoons of water that the little water guns of my childhood held, this one holds 13.5 ounces, which means, in theory, that you do not have to fill it up as often. To fill this toy with water, you have two choices: unscrew the cap and use a faucet, hose or cup to get the water into the wide opening, or do not unscrew the Quick Fill Cap and press the faucet or hose into it, which causes the water to flow into the water gun. We have used this second option only once, and it did work, but we have a nozzle on the end of our hose and it is easier to unscrew the cover on the toy than it is to take the nozzle on and off of the hose.
To use this super soaker, you must pump the water 20-25 times by pulling out and pushing in a handle near its bottom. This was easily done by both my six and seven years old. After pumping, pull the trigger and a good sized, constant stream of water shoots out of the nozzle on the front which can reach as far as 35 feet. If you constantly try to hit targets that far away, the water supply will be used up rather quickly, so that even though the capacity to hold water is good, it will have to be refilled quite often.
The water blaster measures about fifteen inches long and about nine and a half inches tall and according to the box, it is an replica of the blaster used by Wookiees on the planet Kashyyyk in the movie "Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith."
Since I am not a "Star Wars" fan, I never really looked at this toy until it was time to take it out of the box.
That is when I realized that, in addition to squirting water, it also is supposed to make noise when the trigger is pulled. Three "AAA" batteries were included, so on our first use, we filled it with water and though the water portion worked perfectly, we did not notice any sound. Even though this is fairly new product to the marked so that the batteries would theoretically have not been sitting around for too long, I decided to put in my own new batteries. After spending about ten minutes trying to unscrew the two miniscule screws from the battery panel, I changed the batteries and then spent only about five minutes getting the screws tightened again. After pulling the trigger you are supposed to hear "authentic Star Wars blaster sounds" but all we heard was a squeaking type of noise, and that was only occasionally. I asked my son if that is what a Wookiee blaster sounded like and he responded "sort of." Neither one of my children seemed to care about the sound that first day and have completely forgotten about that aspect of this toy.
The water gun is easy to use, with a handle to hold it securely on its left side, leaving your right hand free to pump and squirt. This super soaker is recommended for ages seven and up, and though a younger child would probably be able to use it, the steady stream of water has a long reach and comes out a bit forcefully so that might cause injury if not used properly. I constantly caution my children not to aim the water flow at anybody's face.
We have only used our Star Wars Revenge of the Sith Wookiee Water Blaster Super Soaker a few times, but so far there are no leaks and even though it has been dropped on the concrete a number of times it has suffered no damage. As with most things in my household, the only complaint is that we only bought one and so everyone needs to take turns.
