Its 3am and youre in the MGM Grand hungry, where are you going to eat? Make your way to the Studio Café where no matter the time, you can get yourself breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Located inside the MGM Grand Casino in Las Vegas, the Studio Café is the hotels 24-hour restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the day and night. The prices are reasonable for Vegas, the food quality is good and the service is generally quick and efficient. All of which make for a decent place to grab a bite to eat while you make your way through the MGM Grand.
Ive eaten at the Studio Café several times both as someone just visiting the MGM Grand Casino and also as a guest of the hotel. Throughout all the visits Ive been satisfied with my meal and enjoyed some fairly good service.
Menu
What isnt on the menu is a better question. With a menu that features 24-hour breakfast, lunch and dinner almost anyone can find something that they like. Weve eaten there at pretty much all of the different time frames. While we were staying at MGM Grand on our latest visit, we stopped at the Studio Café for breakfast while on other trips weve stopped in for desserts, lunches and dinners.
For breakfast they have the full compliment of normal American breakfast foods including pancakes, french toast, and various egg dishes. They offer a combination breakfast (The Grand Breakfast) featuring pancakes, eggs and meat, which is what my partner and friends got, while I tried the Country Skillet Breakfast and then a bacon, ham and cheese omelet. Our friends and my partner liked their breakfast, though it seemed to me as if the pancakes looked a bit tough. My skillet breakfast wasnt bad it was a layer of hash browns, then bacon and sausage mixed with eggs and finally everything was topped with a layer of cheese. My omelet was also decent, though if I had to have breakfast there again, Id go with the skillet breakfast over the omelet.
For lunch and dinner the menu offers a number of salads, sandwiches, burgers, pizza and entrees. Weve almost always stuck to the sandwiches and burgers, both of which weve been happy with. We were there one evening and ended up getting entrees, all of which we were satisfied with. The sandwiches and burgers come with fries or chips. There is enough of a variety on the sandwich menu to account for most tastes. It includes burgers, grilled chicken sandwiches, cheese steak and reubens to name just a few.
The entrees generally come with a choice of potato along with a vegetable. The entrees include a mix of home style favorites (fried chicken, meatloaf, spaghetti) along with other more of what youd expect at a restaurant (steaks, pasta, fish, chicken). Weve never explored too far into the dinner menu but the one time we ate, we all enjoyed what we had.
The appetizer menu never really has grabbed us either. Its populated with the normal appetizers that youll find at most any other restaurant including chicken fingers, buffalo wings, nachos and the like. The same goes with the pizza, weve never tried it, sticking instead to the sandwiches when weve been there.
As this is Las Vegas and youre in a casino, the Studio Café offers full bar service so you can get pretty much any drink you want.
Prices
No matter the time of the day that you go, you should expect to spend at least $20 per person when you eat that the Studio Café. That might seem pricey but for Las Vegas Strip standards, thats pretty average in restaurants like this. The breakfasts were all between about $10 and $20 while the sandwiches average around $15 and the entrees are slightly more.
Service and Ambiance
Theres not too much ambiance to the Studio Café. Its located towards the rear of the casino in MGM Grand and opens up to the casino. You can hear and see the casino. The seating is comfortable and the lighting is bright (no squinting needed to see the menus here).
Service is generally efficient, if not always pleasant. Weve never had outstanding service here, but the waiters have all generally been pleasant and we havent had a bad experience either. Service times are generally quick, though it can sometimes be hard to get a refill or make a request as the waiters seem to disappear from time to time.
Final Thoughts
Whether you are staying at the hotel or are just visiting MGM Grand, the Studio Café is a decent place to eat. I especially liked it as a breakfast destination while we were staying at the hotel. It was easy, it was quick and it was less crowded than the buffet was. As for other meal times, no one should have trouble finding something they like from the extensive menu and while you wont be wowed by the service or the ambiance, youll likely get a quick meal that tastes good.
