| jo.com's Full Review: Suave Aromabenefits Moisturizing Body Lotion Uplif... |
Not long ago I reviewed Suave Skin Therapy Lotion with Vitamin E & lanolin. I have no idea why I got a coupon in the mail for a free Suave product so in spite of my boycott (Which is hard because of the price of these products!) I picked up Suave AromaBenefits Moisturizing Body Lotion Uplifting Ginger & Lily.
About this product and the claims:
I use a lot of moisturizer. I use it everywhere on my body and have moisturizers in many rooms in my house, my pocket book, car and gym bag. This 12-ounce plastic bottle replaced the 18-ounce bottle of Suave, which is now in the bathroom. It comes in a plain bottle but the yellow flower on top of the orange rectangle matches my kitchen!
As a comparison, although I got this for free, the price on it is $2.99 ($2.79 at drugstore.com). Suave Skin Therapy Lotion with Vitamin E & lanolin has 6 ounces more and is the same price.
It has a pump applicator making it almost impossible to travel with. 12 ounces makes this too large to throw in my school tote bag also and there appears to be no smaller size.
I do believe in the merits of aromatherapy. I do believe that certain smells elicit various feelings and some smells may curb your appetite for eating or enhance your performance in the gym. This Suave, which we are told is new, also tells us a lot more thus such a long name.
We are told that this will elevate our spirits, awaken our senses with the uplifting fragrance of ginger and lily. We are told that their specially blended formula with natural essential oils will also moisturize my skin.
I found a ginger and lily candle at http://enwrapture.safeshopper.com/109/1330.htm?430 doing my research on why this blend would elevate my spirits and awaken my senses.
From http://www.ineways.com/products/aromatherapy/pg-gingerroot.htm (Zingiber officinale)
Used to give feelings of relief from motion sickness, colic, cramps, indigestion, nausea, fatigue, and muscular aches and pains. Sourced in China. Steam distilled from the rhizomes. Color: greenish-yellow liquid. Ok I guess I can buy that if I am feeling sick and tired, then this might elevate my spirits it is a stretch, but dont forget it is only $2.79.
Love: Apple, Meadowsweet, Cardamom, Mimosa, Carnation, Narcissus, Coriander, Palmarosa, Daffodil, Plumeria, Freesia, Rose, Gardenia, Rosemary, Ginger, Spider Lily, White Ginger, Stephanotis, Hyacinth, Tuberose, Iris, Vanilla, Jasmine, Water Lily, Lavender, Wood Aloe, Lemon Verbena, Yarrow, Lilac, Ylang-Ylang. Please remember that none of this has been tested by the FDA and should not be used to treat any kind of serious condition!
What this product is like:
This product has the same easy to push pump as Suave Skin Therapy does. I like the pump action because it allows you to pump out just a little bit or if you push it down all the way you will get quite a bit. In fact playing around with it now I got enough to moisturize both arms just by pushing down on the pump one time. It is a cream colored lotion that makes it look yellow in the plastic bottle. It isnt as thick as Skin Therapy and I like the consistency.
It rubs in immediately but not as easily as the Skin Therapy does. In fact rather than feeling moisturized my hands and legs dont even feel as if I have used the lotion. Perhaps it gets absorbed too fast! I cant say my body feels any smoother 30 seconds after I apply it than it did before. I would hope a body lotions benefits last longer than that.
It does have a pleasant smell. I like the smell of ginger and lilies, however, there must not be enough of either. Although they are the 6th and 7th ingredient which alludes to the fact that there should be a significant enough amount to have a stronger smell. Although the smell is pleasant it is too mild to be of real benefit if I am going to use it as aromatherapy. I would have to use 1/2 the bottle to make any real impact.
Since I have been comparing products somewhat I can say definitively that Suave AromaBenefits smell nice. Suave Skin Therapy does not.

The Suave Promise:
They guarantee your full satisfaction or we will replace or refund your purchase. For details, see information on package. There is a 1-800 number on this bottle. I didnt call it this time because I had called it when reviewing another product to find out how the refund would happen. A pleasant woman told me that they would send me a coupon or refund my money if I didn't like it. They would only ask for the product if I found a bug in it or if it were leaking...something of that nature.
The company makes the bottle coded for recycling. It is a number 1, though, and in my area, we can only recycle plastics that are number 2.
My final thoughts:
The price is right, that we know. All Suave products have terrific prices. There is no sunscreen in this moisturizer so I cant use it when I go outside. I have it because it was free. Had it not been free I wouldnt have spent the $3.00 on it even though that is very inexpensive for a 12-ounce bottle of moisturizer. I am not using Suave products anymore. In addition, I may have smelled it in the store and realized that the ginger and lily smell promised wasnt very strong. I wouldnt want it to be so strong as to smell like I poured perfume over me, but if I buy something because of the aroma benefits, then I want the benefits. There are many better body moisturizers. The two I recommended happen to be on the expensive side and they are Clinique deep comfort body moisture and Zia body moisturizer.
I dont think this product lives up to its claims. My body doesnt feel moisturized and it doesnt lift up my spirits or awaken my senses. Of course during this review I have been repeatedly using it everywhere so by now I should be flying and I dont feel any differently. (Said somewhat tongue in cheek, though it is a true statement.)
Suave tests on animals. The fact is that other than the price, this product hasnt done all that much. It isnt greasy; in fact I feel it is drying. If you have a very oily body, this might be a good product for you, but as we age, we usually lose oils in our bodies thus the need to moisturize, moisturize and moisturize some more (and stay out of the sun). It absorbs too well really making this a waste of money.
It is interesting because although as I said I have been comparing the two Suave products I just found what I said about Skin Therapy, . When they say reapply as needed they are not kidding. You need to be constantly reapplying Skin Therapy to feel moisturized. I am not recommending it. I will spend a bit more for products that dont test on animals, that last longer and smell better. I could say the exact same thing for Suave AromaBenefits except that this does have a pleasant smell.
