| cjlarkin's Full Review: T-Fal Ingenio Cookware Sets |
I bought the T-Fal Ingenio Cookware Set from an Infomerical about 3 years ago. At first I loved the set. Everything stacked into each other --perfect for a single person in a small aparment. The cookware became containers with plastic lids so that you can cook, serve, and store everything in the cookware.
Upfront I saw issues with the set. A) The cooking lids are not real lids-- all of them have "steam vents"/ pasta draining holes so that you can not actually get the seal that you need in order to successfully make certain dishes-- such as RICE. Additionally, from the design of the cooking lids a few times I burned myself from how much hot water would collect in these "vents". These lids also bend and warp easily. You get two of them -- for SIX pans -- and I dropped one only 2 feet and it dented. That one now does not fit the pots too well. The other one warpped in the dishwasher. (The entire set is suppose to be dishwasher safe...). B) The handles sometimes would randomly come up and I snag my fingers on them a few times. C) There were not enough storing lids (plastic lids) for all the cookware. Thus, if you were making a large meal and were hoping to store everything with the lids they gave you-- good luck. In the set you get 3 plastic lids, and two cooking lids for a cookware set of SIX.
Now let's fast forward to the present. I have never used metal utencils with the cookware and from simple washing the Non-Stick Coating is flaking off. The pans are warpping and in order to use the removable handles I have continously GRIP the handles while cooking. And on a minor note-- the colour has changed from black to brown/black mixture.
Years ago T-Fal used to be a great company for cookware. After this experience I will never buy T-Fal again. Especially after a friend of mine showed me her Cook's Essentials Cookware that she got from QVC... Amazing cookware that she has had for approximately five years and is in perfect condition. And her set was MUCH cheaper then what I paid for this fad.
I think the Ingenio design has great potential, but another company needs to run with the design as T-Fal surely has failed here.
I, in no way recommend this product. As when you buy cookware-- especially at close to $300.00 -- it should last you at least five years.
