| shopaholic_man's Full Review: T-Mobile Phone Service in Boston |
I was on trial for kidnapping. Verizon's "Can You Hear Me Now" guy had brought charges. About a month ago, I had taken him from his home, and brought him to the South Shore of Boston, MA and tied him securely to a tree out of sight of passerbys. Its not like I left him there to die, I had given him an LG phone and VERIZON wireless service. All he had to do was call, and he would be freed. I guess someone found him a week ago, nearly dead, trying to get a signal with Verizon. The jury forman came out to deliver a verdict.. wa wa wa woo wa I awoke startled from my bed to the ringing of my phone. It had all only been a nightmare, I had Team Mobile for my cell phone service. What a nightmare I had just experienced. I had Verizon service in a land of dead zones and was apparently about to pay for my reaction to their less than stellar service. Visions of Catherine Zeta Jones swam into my head as I answered my cell phone which was ringing, thanks to Team Mobile Service.
Why Team Mobile? Do I use Team Mobile because Katherine Zeta Jones is so much prettier than that darn Verizon guy that I left tied to the tree or the trenchcoat wearing Sprint guy? Nahh, all cell phone ads annoy the heck out of me, even if they do feature Michael Douglas's young wife. I tried Team Mobile, because AT&T had failed, Cingular had failed and Verizon had failed. Team Mobile was my latest try in a service provider that worked where I lived and worked, the greater South Shore area of Boston, MA, that area from Boston itself (which ANY cell phone provider can provide service to) down to the Bourne Bridge leading to Cape Cod. I have been with Team Mobile for over six months now, and I am pleased to state that Team Mobile delivers the signal! There are very few places that have the dreaded Verizon dead zones, and they are few and far between. I can talk on the road, driving merrily on and off the road, through sidewalks and parking lots, peoples lawns while discussing important states of affairs on my cell phone without losing the signal. (I heartily recommend NOT driving while talking on the cell phone, I do so occasionally, but only on well known roads in good weather conditions using my speaker phone function). I have stuck with Team Mobile for one solid reason, they deliver a signal in all the areas I drive.
Team Mobile v. Verizon If you are from the South Shore, you may be familiar with Routes like 18, Route 106, and Route 14 that snake and twist through the towns of the South Shore. As I rode from the Weymouth Exit off Route 3 onto Route 18, with Verizon, the signal would drop out at each hill. Route 18 has many hills. Team Mobile has no such drops. There is a whole section in Pembroke to Hanson on Route 27 that is a dead zone for Verizon, but for Team Mobile, it is focused in an area that is about 50 feet, in Bryantville Center. In basic terms, everywhere I get nothing but dead air with Verizon on the South Shore, I get to talk with Team Mobile.
The Phone Well this isn't a review of cell phones, but its worth mentioning that I got a really nice Motorola phone with Team Mobile, and had a lousy LG phone with Verizon. I like my Motorola phone, it has a speaker phone function that is handy when driving. It can hold ring tones for each of my different friends, so I always know who is calling just by the ring tune. It uses full polyphonic ring tunes too, not those awful monophonic beeping melodies. The battery also lasts a few days, which I like. I had to recharge my old LG phone every night, or it would die.
The Plan I have a basic plan with Team Mobile, its 1,000 minutes a month for sixty bucks. I also get free nights and weekends for an extra five. With taxes and fees, it really comes out to about seventy five a month, but since I use it for business, it works out well. They have a variety of plans, and in my view they are pretty competitive. Plus, if a cheaper plan doesn't work, how good is it?
Coverage Boston itself is outstanding. I have had no problems using the phone driving or doing business in Halifax, Hanson, Pembroke, East Bridgewater, Bridgewater, West Bridgewater, Weymouth, Braintree, Quincy, Abington, Whitman, Brockton, Easton, Plymouth, Kingston, Dedham, Needham, Rockland, Wareham, Canton, Stoughton, Hingham, Hull, Cohasset, to name a few. I have had minor problems on the backroads of Marshfield and Duxbury, near the ocean. I lose reception inside Walmarts, on the T when I am under tunnels, and inside some large buildings. In most malls, I have no communication problems. The cell phone comes in fine in all the courts I have to go to including Plymouth District, Brockton Probate, Suffolk Probate, Canton Probate, Taunton Probate, U.S.Bankruptcy Court in Boston, Quincy District, Hingham District, and Cambridge District Court. It also works in the Hanover Mall, South Shore Plaza, Taunton Galleria Mall, Kingston Mall and the Westgate Mall in Brockton. Although this is not a comprehensive list of South Shore locations, its a good sampling of places that I have used my Team Mobile phone and gotten a good signal.
Customer Service I don't have to call customer service much, since I am so happy with the service, but on occasion when I have called, to set up a payment, they have been fast and efficient. I have had no problems with Team Mobiles customer service.
Extras You can access the web with Team Mobile, although I never do, the screen on the phone is too tiny for me to really surf happily. You can also text message. Again, not a feature I use, typing on a phone number pad isn't my idea of effective communicating. It does allow you to download a variety of ring tones which I enjoy. They are a bit much I think at 1.99 per ring tone (assuming you don't like the generic bunch included with the phone), but its fun, and theres a huge variety. Although I couldn't find the tune to FUTURAMA, I was able to find ring tones to match each of my friends and family.
Summary Where I live and work, Team Mobile WORKS. It provides coverage. That is the sole reason I recommend Team Mobile. Phones that take pictures, play games, make you coffee, are useless to me if I can't TALK on them. Team Mobile lets me talk without shouting Can you Hear Me NoW????.
