I LOVE Tara Thai. My fiancee and I have visited a bunch of times and my opinion just keeps getting better. They have other locations in Rockville and Vienna, VA - but I have only been to the Bethesda location.
My fiancee won't get anything but the Pad Thai - that is how good it is. I have tried a few of the curries (green and mountain I think) and they were very good also.
The wine list is fair for an Asian restaurant and they have surprisingly good lemonade (I miss summer :-))
The prices are very reasonable. If you are not hung up on appetizers and dessert - then two can easily dine for under $20. Add to that the free (at night) parking in the municipal lot across the street and you have a bargain that even starving students can afford.
One drawback that has a positive side. They don't take reservations for small parties and the wait during peak times can be long - up to 45 minutes. Put your name in and go next door to Second Story Books or up the street to Barnes and Noble to pass the time. They also offer takeout.
The waitstaff is attentive and the kitchen is quick.
The smallish restaurant can get a little loud on weekends - not overly so but enough to bother someone sensitive to noise.
Tara Thai is also a Transmedia restaurant (meaning you get 25% off your food and drink if you pay with you Transmedia card linked to a major credit card)
