| dbonds's Full Review: Technifibre NRG2 |
I am a 3.5 doubles player trying to get to 4.0 (for me it's about unforced errors). I have been playing with the gamma extreme spin 19 and both the pearl 17 and ultra synthetic gut 18 by Klippermate using the Hammer 7.0 wide body and more recently the Hammer 5.3 Hyper Carbon wide body.
I purchased a stringer and have begun to experiment with different strings and tensions for my wife and I. One thing I am learning is that we are all different and like different things in a string. I bought the 18 gauge NRG2 strings for my wife and put it on her Hammer 4.3 wide body (60#Mains,58#Crosses). She was using the Klippermate ultra synthetic gut 18 and liked the softer feel over the crisper more powerful Technifibre string.
Well, I picked up her racket and really liked the strings and promptly put them on my 7.0 racket. They are crisp and powerful with excellent feel. I have learned to spin the ball considerably, so I put the small string savers (Babolat) in the sweet spot. I played fourteen sets before breaking them and was surprised how well they held their tension. These strings are expensive ($13.00) versus the Klippermate ultra synthetic 18 gut($3.50), but the Klippermate lasts me only about seven sets with string savers. Of course that is the price with me stringing them.
I now have a set on my Hammer 5.3 (65#Mains, 63#Crosses) and am continuing to enjoy the power and feel of these strings. I raised the tension on mine to give me more control and bite(spin).
For those of you that string rackets, you will be pleased to hear that this string is a pleasure to use. The coatings used gives it a slick easy to string feel.
If you should decide to try these or any other new strings, please take this advice, play with them for two weeks or until they break before passing judgement. The more I test strings the more I find myself struggling to adjust(you know, nobody likes change) to the new strings each time. However, with these, I fell in love with the first hit.
