Pros: soft, yet supportive; no motion transfer; relieves pressure points; no sag toward second person
Cons: more expensive than some alternatives; lower profile than we prefer
The Bottom Line: Worth the money. A few hundred dollars more over the course of its lifetime is nothing to pay for the restful sleep.

| jmcvey's Full Review: Tempur-Pedic Swedish Sleep System |
I've always preferred a very firm mattress, but have come to realize that it is the support of a firm mattress and not the softness that I desire. Several years ago, we purchased a memory-foam (of another brand) top for our traditional mattress and were surprised at how much better we slept and how much more rested we felt. ...once we were up, that is--this material does tend to make it a little harder to abandon the bed.
When it came time to replace the mattress set, we strongly considered the Tempur-Pedic set but were concerned about it being _too_ soft. We loved the 2-inch memory foam top to our very firm mattress, but wondered if the much thicker foam would feel saggy. It was also slightly more expensive than the traditional sets we were considering.
We've not regretted the decision. The foam is much stiffer/denser (not sure how to describe it) than the top we loved. It is even more supportive, but does not compromise the "cloud" experience. If you've not felt it, the support from this mattress is hard to describe. It is firm, but you almost can't tell from where your weight is being supported. The pressure points where other mattresses bear your weight disappear.
The hype about motion transfer is true, though this was not important at all to us. Probably related, though, is the way you can not tell if your partner is there from "sag". We tested this in the store by positioning like spoons, but with 6 inches or so between us. I honestly could not tell if my wife was there or not. One of the other Sealy mattresses came close in this respect, but none matched it.
Other misc.:
- we haven't had to use it, so I can't comment on cust service, but it does have a 20 year warranty (pro-rated after 10)
- the normally overpowering, first day memory foam smell was very mild with the mattress (this was not the case with the Tempur-Pedic pillows, by the way, but it disappeared from them after a day or two as usual)
- the height of this set was less than the set it replaced. We like the look of the deeper set, personally.
- the softness is activated by body heat, so they recommend using just a sheet over the existing washable cover. The flip side of this is that the feel can be firmed by using a mattress cover.
I'm not sure what else to say--I can't recommend this mattress enough. It cost a little more than the other sets we were considering, but we're sure we made the right choice.
