Pros: Hey, you're not reading it for the plot! Plus this one's a bit different!
Cons: Don't kid yourself--it's not great literature.
The Bottom Line: If you're a V.C. Andrews fan, you should read it. You won't be disappointed. If you're not a fan, I doubt you'll like it.

| lovely_zelda's Full Review: V. C. Andrews - The End of the Rainbow |
I'll be honest: I'm not reading V.C. Andrews for deep, brilliant plots. Oh, no. I'm well aware that most of the many series' follow basically the same pattern.
The story of Rain, however, hasn't been following patterns for very long and manages to avoid a few more in this book.
It's a quick, light, easy read in which--well, I don't want to give away too much, but Rain's daughter Summer seems to follow a few more of the standard Andrews rules than her mother did, at least when it comes to relationships.(the experienced V.C. Andrews reader knows what I'm talking about. The uninitiated should go read "Flowers in the Attic" first and work his/her way through the ghost writing from there)
Anyway, the fourth book is often the weak book. It's the speed bump book between the struggles involved in the first three and the fifth book about the overbearing mother/grandmother(and what messed her up) The talented but unfortunate girl who we followed through hardships and incest in the first three books is often pushed aside and we're left with a spoiled daughter who isn't half as interesting. Summer seems to fare a little better than the rest of the 4th book daughters, but she's still fairly...uninteresting.
Rain herself, no longer the protagonist, doesn't get the development I thought she still deserved, especially since the poor woman is currently convinced that she brings pain to everyone she knows...
Anyway, like the other books, it's good for when you want to read something, but don't want to put too much effort into it. It's a good beach book or an airplane book.(hey, it's why I read 'em!)
