Pros: Location, comfort, amenities. Near public transport
Cons: Expensive. parking limited
The Bottom Line: Grand dame of Portland isn't stuffy. Costs a lot but is worth it. Live it up while there.

| unterspan's Full Review: The Heathman Hotel |
ah.. this is city class at its best. from the beefeaters who open your car door to the amazing cocktails in the bar, this is not a place you will forget or regret. The Heathman is centrally located in downtown Portland. near all the public transportation, the performing arts center and some great shopping. Its venerable reputation might make you think its stuffy or for the older crowd but it's comfortable, reasonably hip and has one of the best places to eat in downtown Portland. Before I start waxing poetic about the crusta ( my favorite cocktail this year) let me talk about the rooms and the staff. Portland is famous for its hospitality and the heathman is one of its stars. Need to know how to get around?, when and where to get tickets to the overwhelming number of cultural events? How to find some great oysters or even greater beer? The Heathman staff is there in a non fussy laid back way.
The rooms are equipped with everything the now generation needs or wants. Great down pillows and comforters MP3 players. WiFi. Peets coffee is served, lush bathrobes provided and the Arlene Schnitzer Hall is right next door. If you forgot an umbrella, the staff will even lend you one. This place isn't for the sighly budget conscious but it's a grand place for a grand occasion and you will never forget your comfy bed.
If you choose to eat in their restaurant you wont be getting typical hotel food either. From amazing breakfasts to high tea in the dining room to cocktails ( an entire pre 1960's cocktail menu will make you feel like Hemingway, Fitzgerald or Cole Porter). There is also a bustling dining room fronting the street that is the place to watch and be watched as the Portland World passes by. You might be poorer by about 120. but you won't be hungry or dissatisfied with the tastes.
