| valc's Full Review: Joanne Bertin - The Last Dragonlord |
This amazing book by Joanne Bertin transports the reader to the world of the Five Kingdoms, in which a race known as weredragons(half-dragon,half-man)keep vigilant watch over mankind. Enter, Linden Rathan, The Last Dragonlord.
Linden, who has been searching for his soul-mate gets caught up in the problems of the world when the Queen of Cassori is killed at sea and the kingdom's succession is divided between two opposing combatants as they vie for the throne. Linden and two other dragonlords are sent to give dragonlord judgement in this matter. But that is only the beginning of the problems as someone is willing and able to use the dragonlord's abilities against themselves.
The prologue captures one's attention with good description without giving away information crucial to the plot of the story. The book is evenly-paced, with plenty of action and suspense that pulls the reader into the world of the Dragonlords, and doesn't have the meaningless detail that so many other books have.
The story-line is intriguing; the characters totally believable in that they have failings and flaws in spite of their extraordinary abilities.
This is a book for all fantasy lovers, but especially those who love dragons and their mystical qualities, which I am sure will win the hearts of fantasy readers everywhere just as Anne McCaffrey has with her Dragon-rider series.
