katiechc316's Full Review: Alice Sebold - The Lovely Bones
Addicting from the start, this book is very hard to put down. Susie Salmon is a regular, teenage girl living in a suburb in 1973. On December 6, when walking home, her crazy neighbor Mr. Harvey lures her into an underground room in a cornfield and there he rapes and murders her. Susie explains this to the reader from heaven at the beginning of the book. Susie watches her family begin to fall to pieces. Her father is devastated, as is her mother. They have different ways of dealing with the pain of Susie's death, and her mother eventually leaves her father. Susie's sister Lindsey falls in love and her brother forms a strong hate at his mother for leaving their family. From "Susie's Heaven," which is created for her with what she enjoyed on earth and more if she wishes for it, she also watches her first and only boyfriend Ray Singh and his mother. Ray falls in love with Susie's friend Ruth. From heaven, Susie is able to go to Earth. Ruth can feel Susie's presence and knows her existence when Susie watches from the same room. In Susie's heaven she meets her grandfather, dog, and all of the other girls that Mr. Harvey had killed. This book has a phenomenal ending and you will not be dissatisfied.
