celmatic's Full Review: Matt Groening - Simpsons: A Complete Guide to Our ...
The title of Homer’s autobiography tucked away in the Simpson’s attic, which you may have never noticed…if it wasn’t for this book. Said book was briefly seen on-screen in episode4F02, also known as “Treehouse of Horror VII. This and many, many, more interesting “stuff you may have missed” is waiting for you in this book.
This is a must for any true Simpsons fan…blah blah blah.
Only a rabid Simpsons fan would find any spec of interest in this book anyways. First and foremost it’s an episode guide, containing the first eight years of the show and as a bonus; short synopsis of the original shorts from The Tracy Ulman Show. With the episode guide we get the bare bones of the episode in question; title of the show and the writer, any guest voices, and production credits. Even the episode’s original airdate and production number are included. There’s even a detailed synopsis of the episode’s story.
Not let me jabber about the frills of the book; cool screenshots from the show. Every page offers a small biography of the inhabitants of Springfield featuring well-to-little-known facts. There’s notable lines from the show, memorable moments, and even song lyrics; if the episode was a magical-musical one. The book even points out pop-culture, movie, TV and other various media references that those wacky Simpsons writers just love to slide in. For those of us that have slow eyes or not own VCRs, the book supplies a mini chalkboard with famous Bart scribblings and a ‘stuff you may have missed’ section. This section is a treasure chest of wonderful quirky information. Some of the stuff that’s listed is so obscure…even the truest of the truest Simpsons fans would be hard pressed to find it.
Flipping through my beloved book, I find another sweet gem to share with you; from episode2F06, Homer Badman…there is a reference for a new Fox TV-movie, starring Dennis Franz as Homer… Homer S.: Portrait of an Ass-Grabber:
