PMellEagle's Full Review: Robert Whitlow - The Trial
Peter Thomason has a problem... a very serious problem! He is discovered staggering away from the scene of a traffic accident, incoherent and with the car's key in his pocket. Inside the car is the body of Angela Hightower, daughter of the wealthiest man in the region... and her death was not accidental, a "date-rape" drug is found in her blood and she has been strangled to death... and Thomason's only defense is that he doesn't remember what happened...
So begins Robert Whitlow's The TRIAL, not your usual who-dun-it nor is it published by the usual suspects either... this courtroom drama/murder mystery is from WORD Publishing, normally known for their evangelical material. And while portions of this book do get a bit "preachy", the story is rock-solid and well crafted!
Mac McClain is a prominent local attorney who's life is spared by being asked to work toward sparing Thomason's. McClain has been devoured by nine years of guilt over the death of his wife and sons in a traffic accident that was and accident... and his fault... and has finally found the "courage" to end his life when he is called by the judge handling the "Thomason Murder Case" and drafted into public defender service...
What transpires in this books 400 pages is nothing short of genius; twists and turns, matters of faith and fact; and one shock after another as you wonder if Thomason's story is fable... or if he's as much a victim as the dead girl...
The courtroom dramatics take on more significance when the dead girl's parents spring for a high-priced lawyer to lead the prosecution team, and Mac's head investigator uncovers a dirty little secret that might wreck what is left of the Hightower family...
Once I got started reading this book, I was hooked, and the deeper I got immersed the harder it was to put down...
