Layers of Corona, Dos Equis and Sauza flags and posters, combined with an Elvis collection rivaled only by Graceland cover up the drooping ceiling and the grimy, graffiti-ed restrooms.
Flavor abounds - their menu contains a great selection of all the tex-mex basics that will not disappoint the one-time visitor, and they have a specials menu that changes every week with surprising range of new tex-mex ideas to bring variety of new tastes to your tongue. (One old-time favorite is the Margarita pie...)
Tuesday nights are Bingo! nights - participation is mandatory and a win gets you a Flats tchatchke and a round of tequila shots. There are other fun activities throughout the week pulled together by a charismatic crew of employees with the energy to pull even the coolest of the cool patrons into the fun.
They're known for their margaritas and daiquiris and have a full bar that can hold its own.
Loud music shakes every corner through their busy nights, but weekend brunches are often empty, and the calm quiet as well as the huevos rancheros will bring you back for another visit. During the summer some shelter from the music can be found in the sidewalk area outside the restaurant as well, though you will wait for it along with everyone else for the evening breeze and a view down the street to the river.
More fun than romance will be had at a 'Flats night out, but it's not to be missed.
