After looking at a number of LCD TVs to replace my 27" tube, I decided on purchasing a Toshiba panel. It appeared to have a picture quality equal to that of many pricier TVs from Samsung, Sony, and Sharp while at a lower price point. After several months, I'm very satisfied with the choice and recommend it highly.
Design
Very attractive, clean looking design with a piano black finish. The stand is nice and sturdy, but it doesn't appear to swivel. The remote is okay, but has a lot of buttons, more than is probably needed. I mostly use my digital cable box's remote though, so it's not really a problem.
Inputs
Excellent set of inputs available. 3 HDMI (many 32" models only come with 2, even pricier ones), 2 component, 2 composite, and 1 VGA. The 3 HDMI inputs especially come in handy if you want to hook up many HD sources, such as HD cable box, HD movie player (Blu-ray or HD-DVD), or gaming systems (PS3 or XBox 360).
Picture Quality
Standard definition: Very good. I had problems initially after getting an HD cable box, trying to get a good picture on standard definition channels. Initially, I had the cable box do the upscaling - tried it scaling to 720p and 1080p. The picture didn't seem very smooth and text tended to be blurry. Afterwards, I set the cable box to output 480i and let the TV upscale. That worked best, and the Toshiba seems to upscale reasonably well. The overall picture was smoother, and text was clear. DVDs also looked very good.
High definition: Excellent. Great picture quality with rich colors and detail whether watching sports events, documentaries, nature shows, music concerts, or anything else that's broadcast in HD. Couldn't be happier - I try to avoid the SD channels when possible now!
My only nit-pick is that in dark scenes it is a little harder to discern certain things, although I believe this is a fairly common occurrence among most LCD TVs.
There are several choices for picture mode (standard, sports, movie, and preference). I found sports mode to be the best out of the presets, although the overall picture tended to be a bit brighter than I like. I ended up going through and setting my own preferences for picture mode. You can save picture mode preferences for each individual input.
Sound
I don't have it hooked up to an external sound system, but the built-in speakers seem more than sufficient. They have no problem getting to a loud volume (I usually never go past 40%), and it has a half-mute feature when you need to temporarily lower the volume without fully muting.
Overall
At a price of $699 on sale, I couldn't be happier. It was $100-$300 cheaper than most of the other higher end panels, and seemed to offer similar picture quality and more inputs than I currently need. I'd definitely consider Toshiba again for another LCD TV purchase.
