What do you do when your old reel gives out and you've only been out on the lake for an hour? Pack it up and go home? Nope, you race to the nearest place...anyplace... that sells fishing equipment. I was lucky and only had to drive 25 minutes to a Farm King and pick out a new reel. I chose the Zebco 33 GOLD TRIGGERSPIN. It had a tag that said it was $19.00. Again, I'm lucky and there's a 20% off promotion...then I get to the check-out and it has been mis-priced in the system. I bought the Zebco 33 GOLD TRIGGERSPIN for $11.59 + tax. I was meant to have this reel.
I like the triggerspin reels. They fit to the bottom of the rod and use a finger for release, rather than the top reels and a thumb. It is a more comfortable hand position, for me. I did have to change the handle from a left retrieve to the right side (I'm right-handed). This was, easily, accomplished by removing the large screw and moving the handle to the opposite side and screwing it back together.
The Zebco 33 GOLD TRIGGERSPIN came pre-spooled with 130 yards of 10 lb line. I was fishing in a matter of minutes, after returning to the lake.
Why did I choose this reel, when there's so many reels to pick from? I have had good luck with my Zebco reels. My old one, that gave out on me, was a Zebco 33 and had performed well for 5 years.
Some other features, I like, are the dual ceramic pickup pins. These pins are inside the reel and help retrieve and re-spool more efficiently and with less wear and tear on the line, than plastic or metal. The 3 ball-bearing drive, also, contributes to a smooth cast and retrieve.
This Zebco has a 3.3:1 gear ratio. While, it won't retrieve as fast as a higher gear ratio reel, it does the job.
Continuous anti-reverse helps the line from free-spooling out when a fish is putting up a fight, letting the fish fight the drag. The drag dial is located on the left side of the reel. It is easy to adjust, by dialing it up or down to set the amount of drag you need. I would prefer it to be on the right side of the reel, just for my convenience. I like to use my right hand for any adjustments and reeling in, while my left hand keeps a firm hold on the rod.
I fish for the enjoyment of it. The Zebco 33 GOLD TRIGGERSPIN aided in my fun this past year, by performing well and consistently. It helped me catch bluegill, crappie, bass, catfish, walleye and more. I had no problems with it in any way. I would recommend this reel to anyone who likes to fish and wants to do it with a minimum of fuss from their equipment.
The 33 Gold combines all the highlights of the newly redesigned Zebco 33 with the addition of a three-bearing drive and Continuous Anti-Reverse for in...More at eBay
