track_runner's Full Review: Jesus Freak by DC Talk
Out of all the DC Talk cds that I have, I would have to say the Jesus Freak is the best one I have. With edifying lyrics that both Christian listeners can feel a touch of God through, and non-Christian listeners can feel like they are getting something, but not being totally overpowered by a religious aspect. This rock cd (DC Talk was known more for a rapping aspect in there first 2 cds), is a vibe of rock, R+B, Latin, and Pop. This cd can get to every variety of tastebuds you have for music.
Track 3- The title track "Jesus Freak" is a song that has a R+B lyric sound, but a rock musical sound in the background. With lyrics that dare the listener to not hide your beliefs in Christ and go out and "shine your candle". Definately an awesome track.
Track 4- "What if I Stumble" is a soft acoustic guitar song that mellows you out and makes you think on who to rely upon when you fall and are taking your stumbles in life. Definately a song that helps you out in your stressful moments. This is my favorite song on the cd (well one of them)
Track 10- "In the Light" is a song with a beat that has somewhat of a Latin background, but still mainly rock based. It is a cry out for God and how someone wants to get out of the hell in there life and into a Christian atmosphere. This is another one of my favorite songs.
Track 11- "What have we Become" is a song kinda a dark mood to it. It is a great song, pointing out the horrible things in this world like racism, divorce, and other worldly issues. It makes you think all the worries of the world and that God is the solution.
Track 12- "Mind's Eye" is another of this cds awesome songs. Starting off with sort of a talking intro, and then entering into a rock filled song; Mind's Eye is a song that tells what DC Talk pictures God as. With a preaching stop in the middle of the song by Billy Grahmn, it sounds korny here but in the song it fits perfectly and runs so smoothly. This is another one of my all time favorites by DC Talk.
Don't think that because I didn't mention a lot of tracks that this is a bad cd. I just can't type about them all. This is easily a cd that everyone should own, and I recommend it to any Christian (and non-Christian).
