"Noon Wine" is very close to perfection. The bonds salesmen from PH,PR stuck in my memory.

I should reread more of her work, though at the moment I'm enthralled with rereading The Red and the Black, a book without the concision of Porter and one with a lot more telling than showing, but with forms of subtlety of its own.

Stephen, has always been a favorite of mine, too. I am sad that she is not mentioned much these days.

"Noon Wine" is a superb short novel, the one of these three which I like best.
