Now on video...and glad I didn't spend more than $3.00 for a rental.
This long awaited movie, should've taken a little longer. If you've seen the first Pirates movie, The Black Pearl, you would expect this show to have quick wit and humor, fast action and thrilling fight scenes. You would be wrong. It seems they had to prolong scenes, that would have been more effective and entertaining in a shortened version, boring "humor", slooooooooooow action.
Jack Sparrow in typical fashion gives up his "friend" Will to Davy Jones in an attempt to bargain for his own life. Yet again, Elizabeth sets out to save her love Will. I won't go any further with the reasons as to why Jack gives up Will or how Elizabeth finds him, as the plot is about the only thing going for the movie, other than some nice special effects/CGI.
Dead Man's Chest introduces Davy Jones, Bootstrap Bill (Will's father) and my 2 new favorite characters...The Cracken & Tia Dalma. The last two are in order, a ferocious sea-monster that takes down entire ships and a voodoo queen.
It seems that since the Black Pearl was so hugely popular and they released the fact that it was the first of a trilogy they could count on this one being almost/if not as popular as the original, with less effort on the productions and actors part. They succeeded in assuring the 3rd installments popularity by leaving Dead Man's Chest hanging in the air as to what will ultimately happen to all the characters. It makes me wonder just how much effort they will put into the last of the trilogy, knowing that people have to find out what will become of Jack Sparrow, Will Turner & Elizabeth Swann.
See Dead Man's Chest if you must, but be aware you will be sucked into the 3rd (and last) installment of Pirates of the Caribbean.
