After reading this epinion I wrote about 4 years ago, I figured it was about time to update and revise this review.
The 2000 Acura Integra GL 4-door DOHC is still a GREAT car!
Walking up, or around my mother's dark green gem, you will notice that this car has the aesthetic design of a real sports car (which it is not.)
The front circular beam lights are attractive, and sporty. The side of the car is aerodynamic, from the low, shark-nosed front end to the still low, but higher rear end of the car.
The moonroof accents the car beautifully.
A couple things I feel I must add about the looks of this particular model are the moonroof, which adds a "more-than-economic" look, and the four doors. For almost every car except the Maxima, four doors foul up the look of a car. On the Integra, four doors oddly makes the car look more complete, and more expensive/chic looking.
Lastly, regarding the exterior, the paint job on this particular model is remarkably astonishing. No matter how dirty or scoffed/scratched/scraped the exterior becomes, there is still an affluent sense of dignity this car holds. Not that I can explain this quality of paint job in any capactity; I won't try. Something about the latest generation integras tells me the paint job was refined from the past '94-97ish models.
Interiorwise, the car is a little too sporty for my tastes. I happen to be more of a luxury-sedan man myself, so I would recommend the low-seated appointment of this car to people who are more oriented towards Miatas, Celicas, Porsches, and the like.
The seats are quite sporty, hence not too comfortable on long interstate treks. The inside controls are awkwardly placed and quite far from ergonomic. One has to assertively reach to change radio/climate controls, which somewhat bothers me.
The back seats are very comfortable, with little room to spare for over mens-sized 9 shoes, not at all mimicking a true sedan.
Visibility is the true gem of any interior perception or opinion on this car. The downward scope of the hood correlates with the almost clairvoyant windshield to give you a more than sufficient view of everything needing to be seen on the road, and in front of you.
Unfortunately, in Northern Delaware, rain is often, and long; the windows fog up incredibly. The effort of the defogger/rear defroster is great, however its results little while driving on a 10-lane highway with cars cutting you off and pulling out in front of you while stopping for a light you didn't see until the last minute because you were busy desperately trying to defog your windows with a less-than-adequate climate control system.
My apologies for such a run-on sentence... but this car's climate system sucks rotten eggs. Sorry Acura ;(
This car excels altogether in peformance. The 2.0 liter four-cylinder DOHC engine isn't quite generous with power. It actually is quite weak, with a lack of torque, however catches up with higher-RPM horsepower.
This particular car (stock) is not made for racing.
The car's lack of sportscar horsepower may, however intrigue someone on the back roads.
Because of the stiff, yet comfortable suspension on winding, country roads, the car is a winner. Whether on back roads, or on I-95 going 110, the car is glued to the road, with handling to spare.
Whoever designed this car designed it with maneuverability in mind. It is very seldom you could run off the road (except in wet conditions)with this car given the sturdy "riding-on rails" handling this car provides. Turns are quick, easy, with absolutely NO ROLL. Brakes are strong, and efficient for the cars weight, utilizing the four wheel disc brakes.
However good the handling, this should not be left to the care of stock tires. Lower the profile and get wider H or V-rated aftermarket tires. These are necessary anytime, and anywhere.
The electrical/electronic componenents of this car are exceptional. The car came stock with tweeters (small speakers devoted to just treble in the front of the car) and a symphonically-distributed sound fortress. However not deafening, the balance of the car's system is incredible for a stock car, and cannot be knocked.
Note: This car is VERY compatible with aftermarket stereo components.
The best thing about this car are its great bright lights. The high beams on this car surpass aftermarket beams/lights/commercial spotlights. They are ridiculously liminescent, and can bring you through back roads at over 80 miles per hour with future notice of any trouble coming up the pike. I LOVE THE HIGH BEAMS ON THE INTEGRA.
Altogether, this car is great. I smashed it into a Crown Victoria one night (not my fault.) it repaired beautifully, and have not yet had any complaints (acceleration could much improve.)
The car overall is a gem, and is ahead of it's time with handling, brakes, and reliability. This has been the car with which I have compared reliability review with all other cars I have ever had. It doesn't know how to break down. I am convinced of this.
Lastly; buy this car. Buy this car, hold onto it, get comfy seat covers, a remote control for the radio, better tires, and an Intake and Exhaust system with an aftermarket computer and you have seriously the best investment in the market. Would this car had better power in general, this car could legitimately confront a BMW with craftmanship, quality, performance, and reliabiity.
OVERALL, THIS INTEGRA HAS VERY MUCH UPHELD ITS INTEGRITY.
