Overall the vehicle is OK when it everything is working properly. I bought it because I needed a van for my business. Since I've owned this vehicle I have had to replace so many things that I may forget to list them:
Cruise Control - Quit; A/C Heater unit under days failed; L & R door window motors failed; Auto Transmission - Failed; Intake Manifold Leak - Expensive; Exhaust System hangers - Failed; Spare Tire Retractor - Failed. Braking System - More replacements than normal.
All of these failures resulted in high repair bills totaling over $5,500. Would I buy another Ford Windstar? Extremely doubtful. Most of the failures occurred from 50,000 miles to 75,000 miles while some have come after 90,000 miles.
On the plus side, the finish has held up well. The weather seals have not fallen apart and the upholstery surprisingly has held up well. So far I have had no problems with the engine or rear axle assembly. In all honesty, most of the part that failed should last a lifetime on a vehicle. Items that one would expect to fail seem to wear very well. (Knock on wood).
I now have 110,000 miles on the vehicle and the only saving grace is that its paid for.
