In a memory card world of 1 Gigabyte monsters why would I settle for a 256 megabyte card? It was free with a camera I won on Ebay.
The Specs
This Viking Interworks memory card has a 256 MB capacity. At my highest camera settings (2593 X 1944 & Superfine) it allows for 96 pictures. I use a lower 2048 X 1536 size with the superfine setting. This lets me take 149 photographs before I have to switch cards or save them to my computer. This works fine for me while doing photography around home or in one of the wildlife areas near by . I'm able to download the pictures to my computer often. When on vacation I tend to snap 100's of pictures and need more memory card space.
This is a SD (or Secure Digital) card. It works with many types of cameras, PDA's, and GPS units. I have used it in my two Canon cameras and my husbands game cam. The game cam is a camera that straps to a tree/post and when it detects movement snaps a picture. The Viking InterWorks 256 MB SD card has proven to be sturdy with the bumps it took when the game cam was dropped and knocked around by a deer that appeared to be offended by the flash. Its small size (33mmX24mmX2.1mm) makes it easy to lose. If I take mine out of the camera I immediately put it in the plastic case it came in and put it somewhere safe.
This card has a speed rating of 8X. It has a write speed of 1.2 MB/second and read speed of 10 MB/second. Hey great! I have no idea what that means in technical terms. What I do know is that there is minimal lag between taking pictures in rapid succession. I'm able to snap several photos of a moving subject with almost no interruption of movement to movement. Downloading my pictures to the computer is lightening fast. I can have 100 photos to edit within seconds of hooking up the camera to the computer.
The Grand Finale
The Viking InterWorks 256 MB SD Card has proved itself over and over with the way it works. I do have a 1 GB memory card for vacations, where this becomes my back up card. For around home it is my primary card due to it allowing for rapid picture taking. When I'm taking pictures of a swan preparing for flight or landing I don't want a memory card that has to gear up for the next picture. It is a well built memory card that has been bumped, dropped, and used often. It still works great. The 256 MB's is sufficient for everyday use, but would cause problems for someone going on an extended vacation or isn't able to download the photos often.
I like the Viking InterWorks 256 MB SD Card for smaller photography sessions. My first 1 gigabyte memory card quit working when I needed it, this smaller card came to the rescue. While I received this card for free, I feel the $15 to $20 I've found it for on the internet is a cheap price to pay for the reliability.
