It is unfair to say this about the presario, gateway, and etc. I am writting briefly about the AMD k6-2 chip in general. I have the machine and at first was really frustrated. Perhaps it was because I bought the "system" from a home shopping club that put a system together using their pics.I had to spend three hours on the phone with their support division the second night after I hooked up due the registry failing to recognize and respond. This resulted in some bad negative feelings of regret the first two days. Thank god they had a great technical support team that was willing to "stay" with me and help me completely troubleshoot the problems I was having. Had it not been for that, I would have been packing the whole thing up and shipping it back to the club.
What we found was that once the windows 98 was reinstalled and everything properly integrated, the system speed is killer, the response right there and that the whole system became immediately user friendly and dependable. Perhaps the long haul shipping could create some disturbances, whatever the bug was is gone now and it appears to work great. Another problem I had was that the scanner interrup IQ was locking the system up. Once we reinstalled and hooked everything back into the system one thing at a time, everything gelled.
I have the 500MHZ AMD K6-2 with a 20 Gig hard drive and 96MHZ. At work I use a Pentinum III that isn't near as fast, quick to respond or can even touch the overall performance of the AMD.
I am really glad that I kep the machine and walked through the tech support. I might not have known the capabilities of this great machine.
Thanks
