| martynhodder's Full Review: Sony CPD 100ES CRT Monitor |
I'm not made of money and can't afford a nice plush 21" monitor. But I don't like looking through a goldfish bowl ether. I had about £150 to spend on a new monitor and without seeing it first, jumped in and got it.
I've read a few reviews on some of the monitors in Sony's range and they all seemed reasonably good so I did not think I could do that badly with this one.
You do get a lot for your money. A normal 15" screen would set you back anywhere between £90 and £130 so what extra are you getting for your money.
Firstly you get a Trinitron screen. Which means everything is much clearer, sharper and brighter than on a normal CRT. The screen is not perfectly flat, there is a slight curvature but nothing you would notice. The picture is sharp. I can get mine to 1024x768 @ 85Hz which is as much as a reasonable 17" screen. The menu system is very simple to use with an easy to navigate on-screen menu.
But there are a few bad points too. Firstly as the monitor warms up the screen shifts slightly (about 2mm)to the right on mine. This means i have to adjust it about half an hour after turning it on which can get mildly irritating. The focus is also not perfect. the edges of the screen are slightly less sharp than the center. There was also a slight angle on the top of the screen that I could not correct with the control's.A lot of people would probably not notice any of these things as they are only very minor and might only affect my particular monitor.
Overall i think that it is definitely worth buying if your on a budget or tight for space. I have no regrets about spending that much and if i had seen it before I would have probably paid more.
