| wideiris's Full Review: Compaq Presario 1270 (104722-003) PC Notebook |
I've had this little machine for almost a year and I'm still wailing away on it. I write for film and television, so I am always on this thing and I can NOT afford a crash. This system does not let me down. It's very very dependable.
The speed is there, enough for me, enough for the net and opening programs, etc. The memory seems to be adequate. What else can you say, really? It depends what you need your system for. I play a few games, surf the net, and write. It handles all of that perfectly. It's got enough hard drive space for my different screenwriting programs, a lot of MP3's, and all the other gak we accumulate.
The price is right ($1400 at the time), and it doesn't crash. I do use Norton SystemWorks 2000 to continually clean up my system and defrag the hard drive, but I do believe that it's compaq and their system.
My previous laptop was a compaq (33mhz!!), and it, too, was flawless until its later years in life.
I really really like the touchpad as a mouse. I can't imagine anything but this, and it's really receptive and simple. The machine does have an external mouse that I sometimes use, and it's as easy as plugging it in. I like the crispness of the keys, but I wish I had bought the 14.1 screen. I always get jealous when I play with other people's machines that have the bigger screen, and wish that I'd made the decision to do that. But otherwise, the machine is one of the best purchases I have ever made.
Isn't all we're really looking for is a system that doesn't let you down? All systems share similar components, speeds, gigs, etc., so what you're really paying for is reliability. Trust me, this machine is an investment that you keep.
