I bought the ThinkPad A20m (26283TU), upgraded to 128 MB of SDRAM, in June of 2000. It has built-in Ethernet, 15" TFT display, 24X CD-ROM, and Windows 2000. I chose the product because:
a) I've always admired the ThinkPad. It's a very powerful brand.
b) I prefer IBM's TrackPoint pointing device. I dislike touchpads and trackballs. And the keyboard feel is second to none!
c) At $3,699 CDN (base model), it's excellent value for the feature set. I insisted on the 15" TFT display and 12 GB hard disk.
The machine is very well-built and it looks cool and elegant in its jet black case with red accent.
I looked at comparable models from Dell, Toshiba, HP, and Compaq, and they did not satisfy my requirements of good value and usability (large screen, good keyboard and pointing device).
I recommend this notebook to anyone who wants a desktop replacement and who only occasionally travels with it. The 500 MHz Celeron provides adequate speed for all of my needs, including running Windows 2000! Higher clock speed would be a waste, plain and simple.
I'm still ecstatic about my purchase, three months later!
