Okay, first things first. I have gotten VERY sick and tired of hearing people, especially WinCE users saying "How can 3Com charge $500(all prices cdn) for these things!? It probably only cost them $50 to make!" This is true. But, think of it this way. If you walk into Sears, and see a nice shirt for sale, for $40, do you instantly say "That probably only cost them $5 to make!"? No! you generally feel that it is a nice shirt, and that you feel it is worth $40 to YOU. Same goes with a Palm. It is a simple device, with a processor about as powerful as one in a gas pump, but it fits it's purpose nicely.
I have had my Vx for about four months, and absolutely love it. It's sleek , slim, and just overall beautiful. It was worth the $530 to me.
Then, some people say that Palm's are powerless. Yeap. They can't play MPEGs, MP3s, etc - but did you buy a PDA just so you could watch movie trailers on the train!? How about that annoying interface? (Start, Programs, Accessories, Notepad....) Isn't that short battery life great? I'll stick with Palm, thank you =-)
One tip - The Hardcase is definately a nice accesory to have...
