Pros: Great color print quality. Can print directly from digital camera flash cards.
Cons: Software could be better.
The Bottom Line: At $280 a great value because of the dazzling color prints. If you have several digital cameras with associated software be prepared for possible hardware issues. Great HP support service.

| cptnalaska's Full Review: Hewlett Packard PhotoSmart 1215vm InkJet Printer |
I upgraded from a HP 690C inkjet and went directly to the Consumers Reports September 2001 issue (pp.26-29) to get more info. Read this article first before deciding what to buy.
I found the HP 1215vm heavily discounted at Sam's Club here in Fairbanks, Alaska (!) and bought without hesitation.
There were early problems with software installation on USB. The mouse acted erratically and the printer would regularly time itself out, almost freezing the computer. I reconnected the the parallel port and reinstalled the software and things got a little better. I emailed HP and got a long, detailed answer with several possible fixes, one of which worked (shutting down an old Olympus digital camera program)...Operation has been seamless since.
The plain-paper color print quality of this printer is very high. Print quality is consistent with high-end inkjets.
I'm satisfied that a good choice was made.
