| hhassell99's Full Review: Hewlett Packard CD-Writer 9100i CD-RW Burner |
As you may tell from the title of this epinion, I am not an expert on recordable CD-ROM drives. In fact, until I received the hp 9150i I had never used one.
I remember buying my computer, and thinking - "Six gig - how can anyone ever use 6 gigabytes of hard drive space?" Then I found Napster. On top of that I began doing website design. And one day the fateful message came up "warning - hard drive space is almost full." How did my hard drive get full? Gee - could the multitude of 15,342,346 byte files in Napster have anything to do with it?
I started thinking about a cd-writer. I started searching epinions and going to the local computer stores and was trying to figure out what was the best buy for the money to suit my needs. Then a customer of mine gave me the HP cd-writer 9150i as a bonus for a website design he liked.
Minimum System Requirements
Windows 95B, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0 SP5 with 32MB RAM; or windows 2000 Professional with 64 MB RAM; 200 MHz Pentium processor or equivalent, 50MB free hard disk space.
Includes
It is an internal IDE 8x4x32x cd-rewritable drive that comes with step-by-step instructions and installation, hp creation software (including limited-time extras like hp fast format and hp MusicMatch Jukebox), IDE cable, audio cable, screws, and a blank CD-R disc to get you started.
Features
I found the installation instructions to be very easy to follow (I installed this drive by myself and I have never even seen my mother board before.) The installation software guided me through everything step-by-step including instructions that I printed which were customized to my computer system.
As I sat and stared at the box I realized that this machine had the most important feature I was looking for - the ability to record digital music - including MP3 files - onto a CD. Also, the first time I recorded a music CD the software walked me through everything - it was a definite no-brainer. The software makes it very easy to organize your music and shows you the music time you have available after each file selection. This allows for maximum use of the disc space. The quality of the CD was magnificent and it didn't take long to write it. In fact, I was nervous that I wouldn't be able to remember where on my PC I had stored the music files, but the software detected every music file on my system - including some wav files for some computer games I had installed. (Most importantly - it detected all of my MP3's!)
I then got more blank CD's and started making graphic collections on CD - again, it was very easy to organize the files and I also like the fact that the software shows how much disc space is available on the CD after each file is added. To copy an existing CD it is a matter of inserting the discs in the appropriate drives and clicking a button with the mouse. A complete copy is then made in minutes! Duplicating a CD that was just created is even easier, just insert another blank CD and click the button. Again, I can't stress enough how simple the software makes the CD-writing process.
I would recommend this drive to anyone who wants a practical, easy to use internal CD-writer for everyday use. One does not need expert knowledge of computer hardware or CD-writers in general to use this product. Makes a great gift!
