I hate this thing. Not only is it slow, hard to insert a cartridge and incredibly difficult to get to work, but nobody has them. Ok it was a good idea to go with a higher amount of storage, 1 gig is a good amount for just about anything, but the access and storage speeds are ridiculously slow.
The drive connects to your parallel port so the transfer speeds are less than half the speed of an internal removable media drive, like a zip. The cartridges are portable, but for some reason I have a really hard time seating them in the drive properly for them to spin up.
On my drive the eject buttons sticks so when you do get the cartridge seated right, the drive will just spit the cartridge back out at you. It is the most frustrating data storage solution on the market today.
I have come to believe that all this particular drive is good for is creating tension and stress amongst it's users. The only way I would recommend this to anyone, ever would be if I was whacked out on crack cocaine and they needed to transfer a file or set of files much bigger than 100 megs. Otherwise I would recommend that you spend your money on something much more reliable, like an lsan superdisk drive and a few disks.
If you bought this drive today and are looking for affirmation that you purchased a good product, you won't find it here. What you will find is a recommendation that you don't open the box, you take it back to the store and tell them that they tricked you into buying a horrible, horrible thing.
When reading this review please take into account that my drive is an external drive. The internal drives are on a different port and the cartridges may be easier to insert, but I know nothing about the internal version of this drive. It may be great, but from my experience with the external drive I would have to guess that it's not.
