I bought these speakers because I got a really good deal on them,
Office Depot had a pricing error and I got them for a mere $20!
There's no doubt these are worth the $20 that I paid for them, but I do not believe they are worth thr $200 that JBL wants for them. While I am not an audiophile, I can say that I have listened to my share of speakers. My father used to be a big audio nut and has a couple of great pairs of speakers including my favorite, the JBL L65's. I respect JBL as a company, but these are supposed to be their best computer speakers. I don't think they deserve the JBL badge.
Construction wise, the subwoofer is made ok, but the satellites feel very cheap. There is a 2 band eq on the right speaker which is alright, but the knobs also feel cheap. The highs are fairly clear as well as the mids, but the bass is flat and muddy. While the unit can produce a decent amount of bass, it's not going anywhere and lacks punch. The units can be turned up all the way and produce sound with very little distortion. That's always a plus. Although I usually like JBL speakers, I have to say these feel like they are missing something, they don't have life to them.
For computer speakers I have to say they are alright, since I haven't heard many good pairs. One pair I would recommend is the Altec Lansing 48s. I don't know if they still make them, but these sound similar to the JBLs. Clear highs warm mids, but the bass has a bit more punch.
I am still looking for the perfect pair of computer speakers that can rival my JBL L65's. If anyone finds that pair, please let me know.
What I look for in speakers is
clear highs
warm mids
very very punchy bass
highs that don't pierce your ears
hope this review helps you!!
