| Wisky's Full Review: Yamaha YST-MS30 2 Speakers |
The Yamaha YST MS30 powered speakers with sub-woofer amazes me. When I first installed it, it was an orgasm to my ears, and I actually heard sounds and back beats that I didn’t hear with my previous Altec Lancing speakers (which came with my HP Pavilion in 1996). I’m actually listening to them now, and they still don’t fail to amaze me with their sound, even when the speakers are only 4 inches long, 2.5 inches high, and 2.5 inches wide.
I am the kind of person who looks for the most expensive item- and assumes it is the best. This is how I came across these speakers. At my local Sears Brand Central, where they have a rather small selection of computer audio, I decided to upgrade my pathetic speakers. And so I found for the price of $75, Yamaha YST- MS30 Speakers, 30 watts, with a sub-woofer. They look very nice, and don’t take much room either- so I bought it. Within 10 minutes of arriving home, I was pumping full smooth deep bass while listening to everything from Barbara Streisand, to Jay-Z , no matter what genre, the music was full of life and sounded fantastic.
The system is consisted of 2 small powered satellite speakers, and one powered sub-woofer. Each Satellite speaker is 6 watts, and the sub-woofer is 18 watts. Believe me, this is more than enough, after all, the satellites are just for high pitched sound, once you put your ear next to it, you will hear the piercing sharp clear sounds produced by these little things. The sub-woofer does not let you down, with 18 watts under it’s case, you hear (and feel) nothing but deep, thumping bass. Together, the system produces a perfect median and as I mentioned earlier- they sound great.
The volume adjustment can be done on the right satellite speaker, and of course; your PC. When both volume are at full, you would probably blow the speakers and render them useless, and probable lose some hearing too, as they have the ability to go very loud, although I only tested them to a point. When at a semi-loud adjustment, you can already feel the bass in your body (when sub vol. Is on max.). However, I do not suggest putting them too loud (especially with the sub-woofer on high), because this can hurt the speakers, they are not meant for an ultra high amount of load.
If you’re tired of listening to music through headphones, or through Cheap Speakers powered by a 9 volt battery, and want something that wouldn’t be too expensive, yet nothing cheap, look along the Yamaha YST MS**s, I’m sure you can probably find something that would suit your needs. (I own the MS30s)
