I can't recommend these guys highly enough -- they're my fourth local dial-up ISP, they offer the lowest rates I've had, and their service is just terrific! I never have a problem getting on, never get a dropped connection... they have only been down a handful of times in the two years or so I've been a customer, and when they do experience problems they are brief, and the support folks send informative and apologetic emails when they've recovered. They're very communicative about scheduled downtime as well (giving in many cases a week or more notice).
And the price is right: $12.95 a month for a basic (25 hours) dial-up/PPP account that includes a shell account so I can read email in Pine via telnet when I'm not at home. Also includes 10 mb of web space (twice as much as the people who host my domain, but that's another review!)
Caveat: I used to do tech support, so I can't really evaluate these guys (or any isp) on things like ease-of-installation, etc; I do know that they provide a customized installation, which theoretically should make things quite simple for most people who know how to click :-)
The other side of that caveat though, is that the service is great for people like me who don't go for "out of the box" ISP setups. When I first signed on with them I was using a really old, small computer with only 6 MB ram -- not enough for their custom all-in-one software/configuration installation. But getting "just the facts" (dns servers and other info for manual configuration of non-standard dialer and TCP/IP panels, etc) was no problem.
So, for people around Boston or other certain other areas of eastern MA, who don't need an 800 number dial-up, these guys can't be beat!
