| jonbowles's Full Review: Beltronics BEL 980 Radar Detector |
If you are looking for a good radar detector for a medium budget, then you should check this one out. The first day I got it I tested it out and it worked like a champ. I haven't had any other radar detectors, but to me, from all the reviews I read, and for the price it was a good purchase. I bought mine from etronics.com for around $229. I think Circuit City and Crutchfield sell it for around $299.
BEL definitely has a reputation on them for making good products. This detector has 3 different settings of brightness (dim, dark, and, bright). It also has 9 audio settings and a mute function. It has many different voice messages for different aspects. Each radar signal and laser signal has its own unique sound.
The first day I had it I tested it out. I didn't mount it anywhere I set it under my dash. It picked up a K band about half a mile away. I couldn't really mount it because they are illegal where I live, but I did know that the cops VG2 where I live was broke. I don't know if it invisible to VG2 yet, like mentioned. But I have picked up detections about a mile in advance on the highway and even laser twice. I never saw the cop on the last pickup but I am pretty sure he was around somewhere.
It comes with mounting attatchments to mount it to your window, your visor, or on your dash. It also comes with a handy little leather case. All in all its a good deal for what all it does and includes. A++
